Poor study skills and inappropriate classroom behavior are some of the things you have to deal with when you are a teacher. Most kids go through behavioral issues, and it is part of growing up. Create behavior expectations and spell them out to the students. When the school year is starting let them know what you need from them regarding behavior. Create states that will keep the students in check from the first day they attend school. These types of deals are a decision that both you and the student agree on, saying what reward they will get if they have good behavior. Behavior can also be taught by shaping, shaping involves taking steps in showing good behavior. This technique can either be used to guide new behavior or reinforce the ones that already exist.
Use models to show the kind of behavior that you need from the student. When one of the does something good use them to teach the others how they should behave. If you are working on a specific student make sure you students their age are around to listen and learn what are your expectations. When you do this you teach the one who was wrong as well as the rest of the students. The student should be part of the behavior management program by being part of coming up with the goals, making sure they don’t make a mistake on their own and even by evaluating how they have done and how they should be rewarded.
